Mother's Day Thoughts from Ms. Ahone Howard

Since today is Mother’s Day I am taking the liberty of sending you a second issue this day. What follows are some thoughts from a lady/writer with whom my wife Grace corresponds on Facebook about the Mommy and Daddy eagles and their chicks up at Big Bear, California. As you have probably seen, these parents have received international coverage for their story. So I thought our 2 Paragraphs Family would enjoy Ms. Howard’s words as much as I have, and here they are:

Watching Jackie over the years has been so much more than watching an eagle raise babies. We’ve watched her endure brutal winter storms while shielding terrified eaglets beneath her body. We’ve watched her sit through exhaustion so deep her eyes could barely stay open, yet she still stayed on duty protecting her family. We watched her grieve loss, continue incubating broken dreams with love, and somehow find the courage to hope again.

And then came Sandy and Luna. Tiny little fluff balls who had no idea how much devotion surrounded them from the very beginning.

One of the things I love most about Jackie is that she makes motherhood look both powerful and real. She can look majestic standing above Big Bear Lake like the queen of the mountain… and five minutes later she’s doing an awkward exhausted flop into the nest like every overworked mom on Earth.

That’s what makes people connect to her. Not just because she’s beautiful. Not just because she’s fierce, but because her love is so recognizable.

Mothers everywhere know what it feels like to protect everyone else through storms while quietly carrying exhaustion themselves. To keep showing up even when they’re tired. To worry before anyone else notices there’s something to worry about. To absorb the hard things first so their babies feel safe.

Jackie has reminded millions of people that motherhood is not weakness. It is endurance, sacrifice, resilience, and hope after heartbreak.

It is love that keeps showing up. Happy Mother’s Day to our beautiful Jackie… and to every mother out there doing their best, carrying unseen burdens, loving fiercely, and holding families together every single day. 🤍
