What had been happening in Argentina, and still is happening in much of our country, was that it had a system of rules that were intended to assist specified areas of the economy through price controls and other protections. But what was really happening was that these “protections” actually discouraged competition and directly resulted in giving large political power to those being protected. And this often resulted in those entities starting to control the government. But by Milei’s deregulating those sectors the rest of the country began to prosper. For example, ending rent controls resulted in a tripling of rental apartments in Buenos Aires which, in turn, resulted in a 30 percent reduction in prices. And by slashing the licensing of imported goods the prices of clothing were reduced by 20 percent and of home appliances by 35 percent!

So after just one year in office President Milei’s approval rating rose to about 55 percent. And that is just for openers because. as President Milei explained in his address to the nation at that time, “We will continue to eliminate agencies, secretariats, sub-secretariats, public companies and any other State entity that should not exist. . . . Every attribution or task that does not correspond to what the federal state is supposed to do will be eliminated. Because as the state gets smaller, liberty grows larger.” Words to think about, consider, discuss – and employ!
