SOME MARKET RESPONSES TO CHINA

We should all be concerned about what the Chinese Communist Party (“CCP”) is doing to gain financial advantages over us. There was an article in the Opinion Section of the July 30 – August 5, 2025 edition of The Epoch Times entitled “China’s New Law Legalizes Stealing Foreign IP” that describes the CCP’s blatant promotion of China’s theft of intellectual property from its foreign partners. Of course, the CCP has been actively stealing our IP through its state-sponsored “hacking” for years, if not decades. But this situation is untenable. So what should we do about it? Many people say that we should either stop doing business with China or should also steal their IP. But, as a practical matter, neither of those approaches will take us anywhere we want to go. Instead, I suggest we use the market in our responses.

So what does that mean? Well, if I were a consumer virtually anywhere in the industrialized world and knew that the CCP and its companies were profiting from overt theft, I would simply stop purchasing any and all products made in China. And I’ll bet that you would too! So our country should publicize information on this subject as widely and fully as possible – but making full sure that the information is always accurate! Then when customers in the industrial world would see that the product they were considering to purchase was “Made in China,” they would put the product back on the shelf. I would, wouldn’t you? As a result, with this substantial loss of sales, I believe that the CCP would reverse its policy. This approach would be simple, reasonable and effective because it is market-based. That may be naïve on my part, but I simply believe that it would work. Your thoughts?
