OUR NATIONAL DEBT THREAT

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! Taking all of these statistics from the July 2026 edition of the LP NEWS, our National Debt is now about $39 trillion! And this is actually higher than our yearly Gross Domestic Product and it has, in turn, resulted in a reduced credit rating for the United States of America – the wealthiest country in the world! Are you concerned? Are you talking or even thinking about this problem? It is high time that we not only face this situation, but that we as voters REQUIRE our government officials publicly to face and address it as well! Actually, think of it this way: people like me have a retirement and other sources of income, plus we also have Social Security and Medicare, so we are fine. But our children and, even worse, our grandchildren are literally bankrupt because of the government spending on us. Does that bother you?

So what must be done in order to safeguard our descendants? There are basically three ways to bring our National Debt back under control: Increase Government Revenue, Decrease Government Spending, and Grow the Economy. But the problem is that increasing taxes and decreasing government spending do not get politicians elected! In fact it actually is the reverse: cutting taxes and increasing spending are the things that do get politicians elected! So what are the biggest areas of government spending that must be addressed? Of the federal government’s $7 trillion spending, a full 22 percent -- $1.575 trillion – was spent in the year 2025 on Social Security, and we are actually borrowing 15 cents for each one of those dollars spent. In addition, another $988 billion was paid by Medicare for retired people like me. So the final analysis tells us that almost half of all federal government spending in 2025 was for programs that benefit the elderly – at the dire expense of our younger family members! That is not the legacy that I want to leave my descendants? Do you?
