UNIVERSALLY BENEFICIAL CHANGES
2 PARAGRAPHS 4 LIBERTY: 466
If you were to hear about a program that would increase air quality as well as decrease driving costs, oil consumption, time wasted and people’s general frustration would you be interested? A program to synchronize the traffic signals on many of our roads and highways would result in all of those universally beneficial changes. We all know that gasoline/diesel-driven vehicles get their worst gas mileage and produce the most pollution when they are accelerating from a stand-still position or when they are idling at a full stop. But if we synchronized many of our traffic signals the drivers of our cars and trucks would know that if they maintained a specified speed on designated roads they would not have to stop at the traffic lights, which would directly produce those benefits. In addition, we should allow for cars entering the intersections that have stopped and then made a right turn on a red light by not beginning the process of changing the traffic lights for the flow of traffic where the lights are not synchronized by something like 15 seconds. Why stop the flow of traffic if the incoming car isn’t there anymore?
If our traffic system had been run by the Free Enterprise System’s Law of Supply and Demand these changes would have been implemented decades ago, which would have brought that positive outcome for all. So why have our governments not made those changes? No incentives. But that is where you and I come in. Let’s all contact our elected representatives and tell them that our votes will be with those officials who implement these changes, and will be against those who do not. I cannot think of any program that would have less potential opposition than this one, but it is up to each one of us to “get the wheels moving!” Are you on board?
(Just another thought from your author: I don’t want to say that time is flying by, but it seems like I am shaving every 45 minutes. . .)
(One more thought: Yesterday my wife and I saw the show “Riverdance,“ and it was the best show of its kind I have ever seen! The music, the dancing and the staging were breathtaking! If possible, try to see a performance. It really spoke to my soul!)
