CHARLESTON: OVERCOMING SLAVERY AND SEGREGATION

Preliminary Note: This coming Tuesday, April 28, 2026, I again will be a guest on the nationally-syndicated radio show called “Coast to Coast with George Noory,” which is broadcast at KFI 640 AM in Southern California at 10 PM Pacific time/1 AM Eastern.  I know that this is late at night, but we will be discussing things like our nation’s immigration policy, exploding so-called “drug boats” in international waters, and our present “Conflict” with Iran.  So please join us if you can, and encourage your friends to do the same.  Our Great Country needs more honest discussions like these.

And now this new edition of our 2 PARAGRAPHS:

My wife Grace and I have spent the last ten days on a vacation tour of St. Augustine, Florida; Savannah, Georgia; and Beaufort and Charleston, South Carolina, and we had a great time!  But foremost in my perceptions was that the Southern people generally realized that their historic embracing of slavery and segregation was wrong, but they acknowledged that history and have made staunch efforts to judge everyone, as Dr. Martin Luther King stated it, not by the color of their skin, but by their character.  And several African-American people whom I spoke to and who lived their agreed with my perceptions.  So Good for the South, and Good for America!

And, overall, the sense in these areas was one of the culture of history, and one of fun.  For example, Charleston has a center along the waterfront of what they call “Rainbow Houses,” which are houses lined up painted with loud and expressive colors.  And the doorknob placards in our hotel requesting privacy simply said “Hold Your Horses!”  There are many more examples, but I think you get the idea.  So for a fun and enlightening trip, I suggest you consider the Deep South.
