Yes, as has been written several times in this series, “We the People” are the ones to decide who comes into and who stays in our country! But in making decisions about how to enforce our decisions, we MUST remember that we are a Nation of Laws based upon our Constitution! And I am confident in saying that each and every one of our nation’s Founders would agree that too much of what our Federal Government is doing with ICE flat-out violates our Constitution and our principles! Although the Founders and many other people would join me in agreeing that some of the results have been favorable, “The Ends Do Not Justify the Means!” So it is time for ALL of our people, regardless of their political affiliations, to stand up and strongly decry these violations of our laws and of who we are as a country!

So how have we gotten into this position? First of all, it is wrong to put a minimum quota of immigration arrests that must be made within a certain time period and, second, ICE’s hiring of large numbers of inexperienced officers and sending them out among us without proper training to “do their duty” often leads to unnecessary if not wrongful and even violent arrests. For example, as reported on February 4, 2026 of The Orange County Register, “Independent journalist Don Lemon said about a dozen federal agents came to his Los Angeles home to arrest him last week, even though his attorney had told authorities he would turn himself in to face federal civil rights charges of an anti-immigration enforcement protest that disrupted a service at a Minnesota church. . . I was walking up to the room and I pressed the elevator button, and then all of a sudden, I feel myself being jostled and people trying to grab me and put me in handcuffs.”

And, of course, there were the two killings in Minneapolis by ICE officers this past January. I tried to help address this issue by being one of about 300 former federal prosecutors to sign and send a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi that requested the federal government to be open about what actually occurred in Minneapolis. “If the State Department’s ultimate assessment of these two shootings reflects confidence that the actions of the involved officers were lawful and justified, there should be no objection to independent state review of both incidents.” Secrecy about the actions of federal officers in matters of this kind simply cannot be tolerated. And that is not even to get close to other issues that we have all seen in the media of ICE officers pushing protesters from behind and using truly foul language while doing so. Trained law enforcement officers would never act this way. So we all should now protest that this improper behavior is being done in our country! Why? Because this is not who we are as a People!
