LIFE IS COMPLICATED!

Let me begin by passing along to you something that most people have never fully thought about before: Life is Complicated! (Sorry to be so blunt.) And in many ways that has contributed to the rampant polarization we are now experiencing nationwide because there are many nuances issues that are not being recognized by many of our people. So how do we combat this situation? By going back to basics and accenting the common experiences we all share as being a part of the United States of America. So that starts with our nation’s Constitution, which was bequeathed to us by our Founders. Thus we have in common that we were founded as a nation of laws with a Separation of Powers, which is intended to keep any one branch of our government from getting too much power or control. So we must diligently keep in mind that, as a nation of laws, “The ends do not justify the means.” But, of course, since life is complicated, it is often difficult to determine which branch of government has the authority to address which issue. And in that regard I really fault the Founders for not anticipating the invention of the airplane, much less the Internet.

Of course we will always have disagreements, but we should attempt to be working off the same set of facts. Thus we have been let down by the media, which in many places have become a propaganda machine for one group or another. And we have been also let down by many of our government officials, who all too often have publicly stated conclusions that are based upon their desires instead of honest facts. But, as I have often written in this series, it is our government, and if it is not working we have no one to blame but ourselves. So let us not be too quick to make up our minds or be afraid to discuss issues with other people, particularly those who have different views than we have. And let us all try diligently but rightfully to hold people in government and everywhere else accountable for their actions! For example, it is terribly harmful for us as a nation even to think that our FBI or Department of Justice have been politicized – but there are plenty of reasons over the past decade to believe they have been! Let us all do what we can to remember that the world we live in is complicated, and work to bring back accountability and discussions into our lives! Our Founders are rooting for us!
