THERE COMES A TIME!
2 PARAGRAPHS 4 LIBERTY: 404
There comes a time when something said by an elected official is so off base that good people should not be quiet! As you probably have heard, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, while being interviewed on Huff Post about the assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, U.S . Senator Elizabeth Warren (D. Mass.) was quoted as saying: “The visceral response from people across this country who feel cheated, ripped off, and threatened by the vile practices of their insurance companies should be a warning to everyone in the health care system.” Only after there was an uproar to that comment did Senator Warren later in the day add: “Violence is never the answer, but people can be pushed only so far.”
In my view, and I anticipate in yours, this statement is the epitome of allowing one’s politics to blot out one’s reason and even one’s sense of righteousness. To even think that, even if a particular person were involved in cheating people in the health care system or anywhere else, they could be up for assassination is appalling. And for one of our high elected officials to even think, much less say that, is even more so. But this appears to reflect where the politics in our country has been evolving: radical, polarized and often rotely unthinking. So my suggestion is that all of us pause and reflect before making any political comments, and when people publicly make an inane statement that deeply threatens our values, hold them accountable!
