2 Paragraphs Follow-Up
As you know, our 2 Paragraphs columns are meant to stimulate thought, reflection and discussion of the various topics of our day. I acknowledge that I “don’t have all of the answers,” and I probably prove it in each edition. But I am pleased to say that I believe the original intent of stimulating discussion seems to be working.
So this brings me to the feedback I have received from the last edition about Single-Payer Medical Care. Two responses come to mind. The first simply requested to be taken off the distribution list. Since I don’t believe that the column was confrontational or combative, I am left to infer that it is based upon the old saying “My mind is made up, so don’t confuse me with facts.” Maybe I’m wrong, but that that is my feeling. The second came from a longtime friend of ours, and (with the author’s permission) I am passing it along to you for your information and consideration, along with my genuine thanks to all who take the time to provide feedback to these columns.

And here it is:
Hi, Jim. As you may remember, I wrote a blog for 4 years on this subject. I started just before the infamous Obama Care bill was passed. All my predictions have come through. Costs have gone UP not down. Insurance costs soared because of the government mandating all coverage include weight loss, addiction support, abortion, birth control, mental health, and gender change. All three of my children lost doctors who quit or moved to concierge service. The emergency room became MORE crowded not less crowded. I meet people all the time now who have to wait painful months, even years, for “elective” surgery like knee and hip replacements. (when they had to move to Kaiser or similar single payer insurance because of the high cost of insurance with more doctors.)
When people aren’t paying directly for their medical needs bad things happen: Medical decisions, costs, facilities, timing and even procedures are based on the real customers: the government and insurers.
Whew, don’t get me started. Anyway, thanks for keeping people aware of this, especially when single payer health care are again coming alive.
