Top 12 Approaches for a Better America

2 PARAGRAPHS 4 LIBERTY: #376

Last Friday, August 5, 2022, the Los Angeles Daily Journal, which is the largest newspaper for the legal profession in California, published my article entitled “Top 12 Approaches for a Better America.” Here is the link to the article: https://www.dailyjournal.com/articles/368637-top-twelve-approaches-for-a-better-america. As the title states, the article sets forth twelve institutional changes that I believe would make our Great Country a better place for all of us. The twelve issues are: 1) Implementing a monetary “Safety Net” for all of our citizens and people here legally with a Green Card; 2) School Choice; 3) Re-introduce the Free Market back into our Healthcare System; 4) Repeal our failed policy of Drug Prohibition; 5) Require a Declaration of War from Congress; 6) Again become Energy Independent; 7) Re-emphasize Transparency and Justice in our Criminal Justice System; 8) Reduce Government Licensing Requirements; 9) Practical Immigration Reform; 10) Take Politics out of Establishing Voting Districts; 11) Require Term Limits for Congress and the Supreme Court; and, 12) Employ a System of Ranked Choice Voting.

I have often said in public, and I believe it completely, that it is our Government, and if it is not working we have no one to blame but ourselves. So these are my thoughts but, obviously and as I concede in the article, I do not have all of the answers. Accordingly, the idea is to promote more and more in-depth discussions. Thus I request that each of you assist me in thinking and talking about each of these issues, and then communicating your thoughts about them to every elected public official that you can. As we sing in the encore of our musical “Convention: the Birth of America,” now the torch has been passed to us, and we are “We the People.” Let’s live up to the challenge!

Quote from Thomas Sowell: “Abraham Lincoln once asked an audience how many legs a dog would have if you count its tail as a leg. When they answered ‘five,’ Lincoln told them that the answer was four. The fact that you called the tail a leg did not make it a leg.” (Words to the wise in today’s political world.)
