HAS IT COME TO THIS?
2 PARAGRAPHS 4 LIBERTY #351
About a year ago this column strongly recommended that a neutral commission be appointed, probably of retired judges, to investigate both the January 6 march to and into the Capitol building in D.C. as well as allegations of fraud in the 2020 elections. Why? Because it is critically important for us as a country to find out what instigated the Capitol intrusion as well as to be able to continue to have faith in our nation’s voting system. And having those investigations be genuinely neutral would have had a great deal more impact than if they were seen as political. But what has happened is that politicians appointed politicians to investigate the January 6 events, and there has been no national investigation whatsoever to my knowledge about the allegations of elections fraud. So speculations continue to be rampant about both issues.
And now we see that two of the Republican members of Congress, Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, who have expressed concern about the instigation of the Capitol intrusion and who have been appointed to the investigatory commission, have actually been censured by the Republican National Committee! Really? Being a member of Congress and attempting to find out and report upon what occurred is a betrayal of being a Republican member of Congress? According to news reports, the censure in part reads “Representatives Cheney and Kinzinger are participating in Democrat-led persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate public discourse, and they are both utilizing their past professed political affiliation to mask Democrat abuse of prosecutorial power for partisan purposes.” (Emphasis added.) Never in my lifetime did I think I would see such blind tribalism. The commission hasn’t even issued any majority or minority findings yet! Has it really come to this? No matter what the issue, if it is our people we are the good guys, but if it is them, they are evil seems to be the thinking. I am genuinely concerned for our country!
Seen on a yard sign at a neighbor’s house: “Choose Freedom, Not Fear!” That says volumes!
BTW Happy Valentines Day!!
