RETIRED JUDGES: AN UNUSED ASSET
2 PARAGRAPHS 4 LIBERTY: #339
There are some national inquiries that are too important to be left in the hands of politicians. Certainly the inquiry into the assassination of President Kennedy was one of those. Fortunately that inquiry was left in the hands of a select committee of mostly neutral people. The same should be true regarding the allegations about election irregularities last November, as well as the harmful actions that took place at our nation’s capitol building last January 6. It genuinely would have helped our country if there had been neutral inquiries into both of those issues! Why? Because it is of huge importance for all of us to be able to have a full report by neutral people that could allow us to be sure about what happened at those times. Then we can move on. And who better to investigate and report upon those issues than some of our nation’s retired judges and justices? Unfortunately, these retired professionals are some of our great country’s most underused assets!
Another area that could be routinely addressed by retired judicial professionals is the redistricting of congressional districts that takes place every ten years after the census is published. Let’s stop this redistricting from being done to benefit the political party which happens to be in power at the time and simply make the decisions based upon the geographical location of our population. Politics is increasingly polarizing our country, but utilizing retired judicial officers in some of these areas will significantly decrease that trend. What do you think?
