“DO YOUR PART FOR PEACE AND UNDERSTANDING!”
2 PARAGRAPHS 4 LIBERTY: #315
Yes, we all know and have seen so many of the things that divide us here and all around the world, particularly in our religious institutions. But are you aware of so many things that actually unite us? Many of these are highlighted in the website of www.Pro-JectUnderstanding.com, where numbers of educated religious scholars and practitioners have provided essays about the commonalities of the world’s religions and philosophies. For example, as stated by our author Reverend David Householder, “Jesus was constantly frustrated by the dualistic, us-vs-them thinking within his deeply multi-cultural eastern Roman Empire world. His parables, teachings, and actions showcased unrelenting themes of unity, with strong attempts to broaden the world-view of most anyone who had ears to hear.” And these essays discuss not only Christian, Islam and Jewish teachings, but also Jainsin, Baha’i, Sikhism and even Yogic. So please visit this website, look at its contributions that can bring all of the world’s people together, and help us spread the word.
As we all have regularly seen, we constantly are bombarded by the differences among the world’s religions. And, of course, since it’s negative, that makes news. But have we really focused upon the commonalities? That is the focus of this website. And, as people will see, there truly are serious commonalities. Fundamentally I believe that if all people of good will would help to help spread the word about those things that we all have in common, we would make serious progress in spreading peace and understanding all around the world. So please look at these essays. If you do I am certain you will not only be impressed, but you will also be inspired. And then help us pass these thoughts on to others worldwide. If all of us will spread these soothing words on to as few as ten of our friends and acquaintances both here and, hopefully, abroad, and ask each one of them to do the same, we will each do our part for greater peace and understanding in our fractured world.
Thought for the week from Edward Gibbon (1737 – 1794) about the five marks of the Roman Empire’s decaying culture:
“Concern with displaying affluence instead of building wealth;
Obsession with sex and perversions of sex;
Art becomes freakish and sensationalistic instead or creative and original;
Widening disparity between the very rich and the very poor; and,
Increased demand to live off the state.”
