“THE BETTER LIFE!”
2 PARAGRAPHS 4 LIBERTY: #304
A wonderful young lady recently was bemoaning that people in California mostly are not as nice as in other states. I disagreed with her, believing that it is often more of an urban versus rural approach to life than the approach of an entire state. Nevertheless she persisted. But yesterday I sought her out and told her a story about what had happened to my wife and me the day before. We were enjoying a lunch outside overlooking a beautiful golf course in Laguna Beach. But as we were eating I became increasingly annoyed by a group of five women at the table next to us who were actually shouting at each other. I tried to ignore it, but finally could not. So I went up to their table (wearing my mask) and, as politely as I could, told them that they were unnecessarily shouting at each other and could they please stop. Then I went back to our table.
And it worked. In fact they had been so responsive that about fifteen minutes later I asked our waiter to give them a bottle of wine and put it on our bill. But that was when he surprised me and said that the five women had already purchased a glass of wine for both my wife and me. So I went up to them again, thanked them and said I had been in the process of buying them a bottle of wine. They declined my offer, saying that they had already paid their check and were about to leave. Again after thanking them, I told them that this was how to lead a better life, and that I would write about this experience in my next edition of our 2 Paragraphs. So here it is. But I also hope you agree that it is the little and unexpected things that can make life so much better. We all have the Liberty to do those unexpected things, and the truth is that usually it is the giver who even feels better than the receiver. At least that is my view. Do you agree? Life is Good!
